I was born in a hikkan-shi(calligraphy brush handle maker)family, and since I was young, I have made various things by using spinning lathe.
I have been refining skills, mainly with making brush tubes using natural materials such as wood, bamboo, ivory, water buffalo horn and coral.
From the desire to make original things, I established “MONJYU-BO”.
Since then, I have been making brushes for use at rituals of shrines and temples that represent Nara pref. and making original works using natural materials.
Based on the technique of making a writing tube, I am handling a wide range of wood bamboo craft items such as Yatate(portable brush and ink case), Suzuribako(ink stone case), and Kogou(incense container) and so on.

What is Calligraphy?

Calligraphy is the art which is writing of Chinese character with a brush in India ink. Particular emphasis is placed on the shades of the ink, the movement of the writing brush and the combination of strokes.
At MONJYU-BO, beautiful stationeries such as suzuri or brush are decorated in the study and appreciated with guests.
In order to inherit the culture of appreciating stationery, we reproduce the brush of the Nara Shosoin Treasures and display them at the store.
